Ansh Gala | Week 10: The Power of Art

Everyday, in all of our lives there is art around us. There's music some of us listen to at any chance we get. There are the unforeseen doodles which end up in our notebooks during any lecture. There are the posters and murals up on each classroom at school. There are the massive paintings on the sides of the buildings of American High.

All these nice works are expressions of art, and most importantly power. Art is power. It is one of the greatest forms of power. Whether the art is shown through academic excellence, mastery of a physical skill, or precision of a delicate form, art pushes one to reach new potentials.

As a child I used to love playing chess. The 64 squares in which each piece had its own job and way to move. Yet, the art of the game was how to play your pieces in a way to trick your unsuspecting opponent into giving up his king. This game, like all others, is an art which takes time and focus to master.

There is also art seen through music. Poetry with a melody is the perfect balance of complexity with joy. Music and dance have been specifically so powerful in my life. They have given me a community, and a way to express myself. I am able to take my inner feelings and find a way to reflect on them with song and dance.

Art is so powerful that it sees no barriers. Anyone can play a sport, win an academic competition, paint a picture, produce a song, or choreograph a dance. Art is something that has no limits ever, and that is why I love it so much.

  1. Hi Ansh! I was hoping someone would make a blog post about art since it's something all around us. You are definitely right to say that it is in everyday life, like music, notebook doodles, and the paintings at school! Even chess (which I am atrocious at playing) is art. I like how you described art as a form of power that is pushing people to reach new potentials. Your description of your connection to music and dance is also very inspiring (more things I am atrocious at). Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

  2. Hey Ansh! The power of art in my opinion is also seen through music. The art of melody (what I would describe it) is something that is extremely powerful. It has the ability to change the way a person thinks or even acts. Music has personally helped me in many things, including stress and even simple tasks. Art in general is something that can help someone get rid of there fears. It can help them open up to the world in any problems that they have. Art of melody can bring people together and it can help many people to overcome their fears that they might have.

  3. Hey Ansh! I loved reading your blog! Art is something for me, is also more than just coloring or drawing, ( personal note I absolutely can't draw, like drawing is super hard for me, and yea). Because of that, I've seen art in so many different views. I recently went to a poetry class with my Grandma at the senior center, and I loved listening to all of these elderly people speak poetry, that's was such a strong form of art for me. A lot of elderly couples talked about missing their kids, or trying to be young again :). Them, to try and explain what their true feelings are, through the use of poetry, was just amazing to listen to. And music, the form of music is like no other. Any type of feelings, sad, happy, etc, can all just been seen through music. If i'm in a happy mood, I'll put some Drake, and If I'm in a sad mood, you always got that song " your a coffee I need in the morning", that song was stuck in my head for the longest time. Overall, your blog was super fun to read and can't wait for next week!
