Social media these days has turned into something that almost everyone has. There has to be at least one time were someone will check there phones either for something that is useful, or to just scroll on either Tik Tok, or even Instagram. Personally I have been doing the same. Whenever I find my self with no work, I am on my phone scrolling and wasting my time. Even though many people say that it is completely fine to take breaks and goof off, I feel like I should get breaks, but only at times when I have worked for hours. Whenever I pick up my phone after finishing work, I want to have the feeling that, I worked for this free time and if I want it to come back, then I need to work harder. Social media is both a good thing to have on our phones, but it also has its down side. The down side of social media is that we can tend to misuse it and we tend find ourselves scrolling for hours and hours without getting any work done. It can also make us not want to study ever again because us being lazy. One solution I found from using my phone less while studying is keeping in another room, or telling someone to hide my phone so I never check it while I am studying. Doing this has helped focus on things that are more important than scrolling on social media. I was a little happy that Tik Tok got banned, but later it got un banned so nothing basically changed.
Hey Darshan!
ReplyDeleteFunny thing, we were actually talking about this with a couple of our friends in AP Psychology's class! I loved your blog post this time, especially the use of social media and how it's practically "taking over" our live. If you look at it, I always scroll on Instagram before I go to sleep, ( this is a not a good thing but it's practically apart of my nighttime routine). Though something I would like to contradict you with, some people actually may use social media for educational purposes. Though it's really rare, I have personally used social media for help on SAT math problem. Tiktok had a section, which is called "stem" which only displays educational videos. Though, it's not very popular, i'm sure some people have actually used it. I have actually used the idea of hiding my phone during work time, and not finding it until I go to sleep. Especially during finals week, I turn off my phone when I get home. Overall, I loved reading your blog, and can't wait for next week!

ReplyDeleteHi Darshan,
ReplyDeleteI agree with many of the points you brought up in your blog, social media has affected us more negatively than positively. I face similar issues as you did whenever I need to do work, such as the urge to go on Instagram suddenly when I'm in the middle of a difficult math problem, and then finding myself endlessly scrolling reel after reel. Ideally, we all want to be able to exercise a level of control over our phones and being able to complete work, then have fun afterwards, but unfortunately many people, including me, succumb to the psychological urge to distract ourselves from doing our work. This does make me feel guilty, as I am wasting my own time and possibly even other people's time, and realizing this prompts me to reflect and make better decisions. Thank you for sharing!
