Ansh Gala | Week 11: Sweet Power
Sugar. Sugar. Sugar. What a beautiful thing. The best white substance that has been a constant throughout my whole life. I love it with all my heart. That wonderful sweet flavor with every granule is the definition of bliss.
This addictive white substance has had a chokehold over me from the first time I had a piece of candy. Whether it’s chocolate, candy, juice, ice cream, or even cake, as long as something has sugar I know it will be good. Superman fell at the touch of Kryptonite, but, me, just hold up a Jolly Rancher and I would do anything.
Sugar has to be one of the greatest things ever. Sugar is a basic macromolecule used by all organisms. Such a powerful substance it is. Why is sugar so powerful though? I think there are a few main reasons.
The biggest one. It tastes amazing. Why would you want to eat that piece of broccoli in the fridge, when in the freezer right next door is a tub of sweet ice cream. Sugar never tastes bad. It only enhances the foods it is in.
The second reason. It creates happiness. Who is sad while eating sugar. Sugar is actually a magical substance. It can only make the person eating it happy.
There are tons of other reasons like the fact that plants use sugar as their primary source for food and that they basically build up our whole ecosystem. But these are all unimportant factors.
I want to clarify that sugar is something I love, but it does not hold power over me. Or at least that much power over me. I’d probably do a lot for some sugar though.
Hi Ansh! I guess I have you to blame for making me crave sugar on a Wednesday night (when I should be studying for the EINTY quiz). Your post was super fun to read, especially the part where you describe Jolly Ranchers as being your Kryptonite. Your question of "Who is sad while eating sugar?" is completely valid and I stand by it. Sugar definitely makes everything better. On that note, I'm going to go raid my pantry for Nerds Gummy Clusters and hopefully get back to studying. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Ansh! Sugar is something that I think is loved by everyone. That sweet taste that we get whenever we either eat a candy, or even drink something with sugar just makes my mood better. Although sugar causes diabetes and other diseases, a little bit surely does not harm any one. While reading this blog, I am munching on some skittles that I was debating on eating them or not. Sugar has to be something that everyone has at least enjoyed once in there life. My parents think sugar can harm us and it can cause a lot of diseases, and even though they are right, eating a small amount sugar won’t harm me as much, right? I mean I eat sugar daily so a little won’t hurt me, right?
ReplyDeleteHey Ansh! This post is absolute cinema. I really resonated with a lot of your points regarding sugar, because like you, I used to be a sugar fiend. I would almost always be hyper on sugar, and all my favorite foods: ice cream, boba, chocolate, to name a few, are all packed with sugar. It got so bad that a couple Halloweens ago, my friends and I mashed up 30ish Twix bars in a bowl and made a mega Twix. And that was my turning point. We had made an absolute monstrosity of a candy bar, and I remember thinking "the first bite will taste like heaven-- the second will take me there." So since then, I've always been a little repulsed when looking at white granulated sugar, and I've never touched a twix since. But I still do enjoy a little sugary beverage or candy from time to time.
ReplyDeleteHi Ansh! Your blog was so fun to read. I really enjoyed your structured style of short paragraphs to highlight each point you were making. I completely agree that sugar can be a powerful substance because of how delicious it is. I definitely consume a lot of sugar in my everyday life through desserts, candies, drinks, and more. I can also relate to the part about eating ice cream rather than broccoli, and I found it very funny! Overall, I really enjoyed reading your blog, and can’t wait to see what you post next!

ReplyDeleteHi Ansh,
ReplyDeleteSugar has me in a chokehold too. I too would also do many things just for a bar of chocolate or a bag of Nerds Gummy Clusters, and like many other people regularly seek out sugar sources. Your opinion on sugar is heavily supported by me, as it is indeed an astronomically powerful substance. Comparing ice cream to that small, measly piece of broccoli is effective in portraying the power of sugar. I also liked the use of the several rhetorical questions you implemented throughout your blog, it does a successful job of bolstering your main point of sugars’ grasp over humanity. May we be free from it one day.
