Hiba Kathawala Week 12 - Teamwork Makes Dreamwork!
Teamwork Makes Dreamwork!
Image of the Leadership class“Teamwork makes dreamwork!” You’ve probably heard that phrase several times throughout your lifetime. Though it sounds cliche, it holds very true.
Teamwork, togetherness, collective action, whatever you want to call it, is the driving force behind almost everything. From creating political change through marching to the capital for civil rights in 1963, to transforming our own rotunda into a glitzy dance floor for homecoming, numbers can create meaningful changes, big and small. In this class itself, we work with others to write essays, create posters, brainstorm and more. Teamwork permeates our life in countless ways.
Being a part of the leadership class helped me understand the full force that working together can have. Though a class of 60 people sounds like a lot, each person is invaluable in their contributions. For example, the seemingly simple task of hanging the streamers on the rotunda can take up to 10 people to do. We need people to tape the streamers, carry them across the rotunda, and more. Each of those 60 students is responsible for creating those fun instagram posts or videos you see on the eaglenation instagram, come up with lunch activities, fundraise, create backdrops, promote our athletics program, and so on. The gargantuan task of making high school fun and inclusive is one that must be taken up by many people to be successful.
Collective ideas and voices also create a strong impact. The United States of America could never have become independent all those centuries ago if it were not for the unified strength of the colonies and of the patriots working together to fight off the much stronger British army. Their collective action, working together to draft the declaration of independence, coming up with a government structure, and supporting each other, was the factor that led the country to victory despite the lacking resources we had at the time. Teamwork, in simplified words, had the power to help a group of people with less training and resources achieve victory over a much stronger group
The United States of America also relies on a strong democracy to run. This means citizens coming together to decide what is best for the country. However, the political fragmentation of America is growing because of the lack of community and togetherness across the country. Extreme political ideologies run rampant, leading to unbalanced policies and growing resentment between opposing parties. While unification is powerful, a lack of it can be just as impactful.
Working together and having numbers has the ability to end segregation, bring awareness to infinite issues from period poverty to climate change, build pyramids, birth civilizations, end civilizations, innovate new technology, decorate high school gyms, write essays, win competitions, beat sports teams, and the list goes on.
Through historical examples and everyday ones, the impact of collaboration and sticking together is evident. Big and small changes are impossible without numbers.
Hi Hiba! As always, your blog was great! I love how you talked about your own experiences being in Leadership/ASB and collaborating. Like you said, your work is so important for making our school feel fun and inclusive. I also like your historical reference of the United States becoming a country with a strong democracy. Your blog made for an interesting read about the importance of collaboration! Thank you for sharing and contributing to our school community!
ReplyDeleteHey Hiba, your examples of teamwork in your daily life provided a great visualization of how teamwork plays into our lives. The examples like the Civil Rights Movement and the American Revolution provide perfect instances of when history has shown us the true power of teamwork. Your experiences in leadership sound really fun and display the true power of the leadership class. Organizing school events cannot be easy, but the power of teamwork must make it an enjoyable and efficient experience. I agree with you that teamwork can be the stepping stone to solving world problems and making a huge difference in the world. I think if more world leaders were on the same page and truly had the same values we could avoid a majority of the casualties which are occurring in our lives.
ReplyDeleteHi Hiba!
ReplyDeleteI loved how you started off with a common phrase, but made it so powerful! Teamwork also played a huge role in my life, but specifically in sports. Playing a team game like basketball required the most teamwork, and never backing down from you teammates. It was great on how you really made your own definition of teamwork, as you described it as teamwork being the driving force behind major and minor achievements. It was also great on how you connected the 1963 civil rights movement to teamwork, which is actually a great connection because without everyone being there and supporting, change would have not been possible. Teamwork is common throughout or life, it can be like you said hanging banners during homecoming, or even helping my mom unload the dishwasher, all that involves teamwork. I also loved how you finished your blog, by listing various achievements which were possible through teamwork. Overall, I enjoyed reading your blog and can't wait for next week!
